I put electric strings on my acoustic guitar. Will I damage it?
Let me start this question by saying I’m VERY new at the guitar, and there for I know nothing.
My acoustic guitar needed new strings (it had been sitting around for over a year), and I found a new pack in the closet that I just put on. I started to play and noticed the tone sounded off. They feel lighter so I googled the difference between electric strings vs acoustic and found that eclectic strings are all silver. Looking at my guitar, I believe I just put electric strings on my acoustic guitar. I r SO smrt u guyz.
Instead of buying acoustic strings I’m just going to take it to a professional so I can make sure they’re restrung right, but I won’t be able to go for a couple weeks. The question – would leaving those electric strings on there for two weeks damage the guitar?
You will not damage your guitar at all so there’s nothing to worry about. They just do not generate the tone that acoustic steel strings do, as you have already discovered.
There is no need to go to a professional to change strings, especially since you have apparently already done so successfully. Just buy yourself a good set of light gauge acoustic steel strings and replace the strings that are on there now. I use and recommend Elixir Nanoweb light gauge strings but any good acoustic string will do.
