What type of pedle do I need if I wanna play songs like holiday by green day on electric guitar ?
My mom is gonna bye me a pedle today but idk what kind she should get me.all I know is that there’s two types of pedles for guitar
There are way more than just two types of pedals for the guitar. There are hundreds! But they are variations on about 5 different categories.
Category 1; Distortion / Overdrive. This is by far the most common type of effect. It simulates the sound of an amp being overdriven to the point of distorting. Most amps today can produce a good quality distortion on their own, without the need of a pedal. But many people still use one to increase the amount of distortion or vary the sound of it.
Category 2; Modulation effects. These include the various types of chorus, flanger, and phase shifters, as well as tremolo/vibrato/leslie speaker effects. These types of devices take the signal and divide it and then apply some type of sine wave to the signal to cause it to pulsate in some way.
Wah-Wah pedals are actually part of this category although they use a somewhat different circuitry and achieve their modulation of the signal by means of manual control via a foot pedal.
Category 3; Delay effects. This is any type of echo effect be it digital or analog. There are many echo units that will allow you to play a phrase and have it repeat infinitely so that you can play along with it. These types of delay units are known as “loop” pedals.
Category 4; Harmonizer effects. These are actually related to delay effects because they use a similar type of circuit to take the original signal and make a copy of it that can be detuned from the original. Any thing from an octave below to an octave above or more can be produced to play along with the original signal.
Category 5; Utilitarian effects. There is a whole range of these devices that basically act to clean up or improve the signal, or somehow affect the level and quality of the signal. Some of the more well known items are, Compressors that act to strengthen the signal and add sustain while preventing signal overload. Equalizers that allow for boosting or cutting specific frequencies. Boosters that add volume. Switchers, routers, and volume pedals that all move the signal around and change the level. There are other types of effects too, like the “talk box” that is a type of manual modulation device and various synthesizer type of circuits but the 5 categories listed are the vast majority of all effects.
Now the hard part is picking one. To that end I would actually recommend getting a good MULTI effect pedal. These are pedals that will allow you to do ANY of the categories listed above! They can be programmed to do multiple effects simultaneously. There are several multi effects pedals on the market that cost the same as one or two basic effect pedals! One of these cool multi effects pedals is made by ZOOM. The ZOOM G1X does many different effects at once and even has a built in selection of drum tracks to jam with! It has a built in tuner and you can even plug a CD player or MP3 player into it and jam along with your favorite tracks. All of this for LESS than $100 (I got one for about $80!) BOSS, Digitech, Line6, Delta labs, all make very cool and affordable multi effect pedals.
Back to your initial question: Green Day uses mainly just amp distortion and a little bit of delay and chorus. They might use the occasional wah pedal effect too.
