Electric Guitar Anchor

  • Electric Guitar Anchor
Do you anchor fingers playing guitar with pick.?

Seems like makes sense with electric playing lead no. Acoustic, yes. For most part finger picking yes. I see people playing and looks like no.Picking notes out from chords yes.Other times no. My point is seems like what you are playing.

    When strumming guitar, obviously not.
But when soloing, or picking out rhythm licks, I find that I do rest the very heel/ right-edge of my hand just behind and above the bridge. I guess as a reference point. I don’t know if I even do it consciously to be honest with you. As I go through a mental replay as to how my right hand works, I find that sometimes I will also rest the right side of my pinky lower down and behind the bridge if I’m playing higher notes.
But I’m pretty sure that either way, I probably rest it in exactly the same spot every time.

I guess sometimes I heel mute the strings, too. and Anchor that way.

It is done quite automatically, and I really don’t even think about it.

As you play guitar for a long time, things just sort of happen, and you don’t concentrate on anything but the licks you play, and not how you’re doing it.
So you are right in what you are thinking. You do what is needed at the time.

I really don’t think there is a 100% correct way to do it, unless you are a straight up “classical” guitar player like Andres Segovia. And you need to hold your hand poised above the strings at all times.
