which guitar is better?
i am planing to get a new guitar for my birthday. i want either the Epiphone Les Paul 100 Electric Guitar or the
Epiphone Limited Edition Wilshire Electric Guitar .
but i want the one that sounds more like slashes guitar in sweet child o mine. i know the epiphone LP sounds more like it but i dont know if its heavy or not, and i heard the neck is a bit bigger than the usual guitar. Before you think about which guitar you’re buying, you’ve got to accept that no matter what gear you buy, the tone that Slash has on Sweet Child o Mine is HIS tone, and it comes more from the way he plays, eg how hard he picks and frets, how close he puts his fingers to the frets, the angle of his pick, his vibrato etc…… and he could get pretty close to that tone on any decent electric guitar, whether its a Les Paul, Wilshire, Stratocaster, or anything else.
To give a good example of that, listen to the song Comfortably Numb, by Pink Floyd (awesome song) and listen to the first guitar solo that starts at about 1:30 or 2:00 or something. In places it’s got a similar kind of sound to what Slash gets on his solos, only thing is Slash plays a Gibson Les Paul and David Gilmour (Pink Floyd’s guitarist) plays a Fender Stratocaster. So obviously it’s not just the guitar that gets the tone, although it does help. And you might want to get Slash’s tone, but after a few weeks, or months, or maybe longer, of playing youll finally accept that you’re not Slash, and you probably will never have his tone, because youll get your own tone just like every other guitarist, and it could be something really recognisable and awesome like Carlos Santana or Eddie Van Halen or BB King, or it could be one of the boring sounds that lots of guitarists have. If you really want to get something to sound like you want it though you just keep practicing and working out how to get it, and you can get a bit of Slash’s tone, or whoever’s you want, with hours of practice.
But as to which guitar you get, Les Paul’s are freakin heavy but seeing as how so many people play them it’s not like youll break your neck trying to play it, and when you sit down or lift your knee up and rest the guitar on it, the weight gets taken off your shoulders. I never played a les paul just held one, so I’m not sure how wide the necks are, just google “gibson” and on their website theyll have all those kind of details, and anyway if its your first guitar and you got no prefreence then why does a bigger neck matter? although with small hands a narrow neck might be easier i guess. dont know much about Wilshires sorry.
Just go to the guitar store and see if you can try them both, when i went i couldnt play so the guy selling it just showed off some licks, and i didnt feel it till i got home, but you might be able to give it a go just ask theyll probably let you, even if its intimidating when your standing in a room of pros and you cant hit a note. Also, the amp, the amp settings, and the guitar/pickup settings, all change your tone too. So check out amps as well. Slash plays marshalls, hehe not cheap though
i dream of having oneAnd i know it sounds odd but how the guitar looks has to play some part, which one do you love to look at so much? dont limit yourself to epiphone, try cheap versions of fender, you can get cheapish Ibanez and Jacksons, loads more to try from when you go into the store theres like a wall of them and youll jizzz at the sight
