whats the difference between an overdrive pedal and a distortion pedal?
i have a electric guitar and im thinking of getting a pedal. iwant a sound like EVH or vai. i only want to spend 50-160 australian dollars. people have said to get a distortion or overdrive pedal. which one is better. and what sort should i get considering in my price limit???
Overdrive is bluesier, crunchier. Distortion is gritty in your face Rawr.
Get a ProCo Rat or a Big Muff Pi, American not Sovtek. Might also like a Subdecay Stupid Box.
Do NOT get a DS-1. Quite possibly one of the worst dirt pedals out there. Low quality components, harsh ends and low note distinguishability in higher gains. EVH endorsed MXR’s are not that great. The EVH Phase 90 is now the exact same as the regular Phase 90, minus the enclosure.
If you want a Phaser, go for a Electro Harmonix Small Stone. As far as Wah’s go, a Crybaby 535Q with a whipple inductor lets you set the sweep and frequency, as well as volume of the effect. A boost function on the side adds gain for solos.
