Which guitar strings should I use if…?
… I am a steel string acoustic guitar players that plays mainly R&B type songs. I am not really a beginner, but I do enjoy playing barre chords with minimal effort. However, I also enjoy deep, quality tone. I currently use 80/20 Custom Light Elixirs, and I LOVE how they feel. However, I would like the tone to be a bit better. Is there a particular brand and gauge I should use? Also, I rarely use a pick and I play a Takamine EG531SSC.
I have the same strings on my Simon Patrick, elixir custom light (check that gauge? I have 11-52) I also use Ernie Ball super slinky ( again, 11-52) on my Martin. I’m also like you, I play a la Robert Cray. I like the Ernie Ball strings better for tone and playability, but for durability (the type of coating has alot to do with it) the elixirs are better.
