which overdrive/distortion pedal. which wah pedal?
what is the best OD or distortion pedal that can give you more vintage tones. also, i have looked at the MXR custom audio electronics MC -404 wah, are there any other ones you know of that are better?

Overdrive. I think the Tubs Screamer is about the best overdrive pedal. If you are interested in a much cheaper one that is still good sounding, Danelectro Pastrami overdrive. For a more vintage tone, try the Danelectro Daddy O overdrive.
Distortion. The MXR and the Pro Rat are very good. If you want a much less costly diestorion pedal, the Boss DS-1 is very good and affordably priced. For more of a vintage tone, try the Danelectro Fab Tone (the older line of pedals, not the same as the later Fab serioes.)
Wah. I think the vintage Vox and the Crybaby are the best. The truly vintage Vox wah pedals are collector’s items, too pricey to actually play. However, the Crybaby is still available at a reasonable price. And since they have been around forever, you can pick up an older one dirt cheap. If the vintage wah tone is what you seek, what you need to get is the Crybaby.
One note of caution. The best array of pedals will not help your sound if you have a lousy amp or lousy speakers. I am a long time tube amp player and fan. I started playing the Fender blackface back in 1967. I also have a vintage Marshall. However, even though I love the tube amp, I do not think that tubes are the only way to go. I don’t think tubes are well suited for everyone and especially not for newer players. There are a multitude of very good solid state amps. The point is that in many cases the best way to improve your sound is to improve your amp or speakers. You did not mention what you are currently running so this note of caution may not apply to you.
