my first guitar i ever had was a squire strat and i sold that ages ago and went to a ESP LTD v-300 and ive been looking into getting a seven string.. i went to guitar center today and i jammed a bit while i was there but almost every guitar i attempted to play had a body that set the neck in an awkward postion and im in there looking like an idiot trying to play them like a classical guitar xD. so that being said i am wondering what body styles also set the neck in a position similar to the V and i would also like suggestions for some 7 string guitars. (i play mostly deathcore and death metal)
Im not sure what you mean “set the neck in an awkward position”. Do you mean a bolt on? Neck thru? Set neck? The body got in the way? It was unbalanced?
For V’s, I would suggest the Alexi Laiho V (LTD). I think it was discontinued, but you can pick them up used. Its only got one pickup (EMG H4), but its got great features. Also check out the BC Rich Jr V Deluxe or the Dean V’s. If you are looking for something similar to a V, check out Deans ML79 series. They have some great value for the price. Ibanez has some great V’s also, but they are harder to find.
As for 7 strings, check out some Ibanez and Schecter 7 strings. They are both great for shredders.
