Body Original Flame
-

Is this a proper use of the word “vestal?”?
In her cold mind this world’s a vile game,
Her gaze’s fire leaps from her lined eyes,
And if you think it but a vestal flame,
Then guard your heart for her bitter surprise. So, I have to write a sonnet for a remarkable hard-nosed English teacher and that’s the third quatrain. It’s still a work in progress, and I’ll probably post the whole thing to the Poetry category after it’s done, but I was worrying about that word because my teacher is keen on that kind of thing. We can’t use the phrase “in good humor” because it’s a “bastardization of the original Renaissance term for the four essential fluids that comprised the body.” So yeah.
Good for her. Yes, it is.
