Electrochemical reaction be undone ?
I was playing around with cleaning a silver dollar (1884 o Morgan). Tried the Al foil and bicarbonate method, but it wasn’t very good. So I decided to speed up the process by passing an electric current through the solution. seemed to work at first, then the coin turned BLACK ! All over black ! LOL
Next, changed a steel electrode for a copper one, Copper turned grey, then bright green as the solution turned blue.
Now I am getting nervous, because I cannot remember if copper sulfate emits a toxic gas ?
Anyway, tried clean solution, steel electrode and aluminum case with contact on silver coin. It’s still black. LOL
Besides a wire brush (I think I have silver weight value only now) what’s next ?Holy guacamole ! thats one hec of a problem ! ! ! hahaha
i honestly don’t know about all these great ideas. I do know however that once you get a yucky
over used coin you leave it in ‘ Coca cola ‘ and wella in a few hours it is beautiful.
