santana amp settings?
you would you go about getting a Carlos Santana sound on a line 6 spider III 75W? or on any other amp… just basically give wat you would use for: gain, bass, mid, treble, reverb, and efx. also, how would you set the tone knobs on your guitar? which pickup(s) would u use? any help is appreciated

Carlos’ tone is based around early Mesa Boogie amps – lots of compression, lots of gain, and most of it in the mids with a certain amount of high-end roll-off.
If you have a multifx amp or pedal, like line 6, try selecting an amp model that doesn’t have too much gain in it – you don’t want crazy amounts of crunchy distortion, you want just enough to compress your tone and give it an edge. So start on the lower end with gain, but don’t be afraid to push it… you just don’t want so much of that fuzzy high end, you don’t want the fuzz to wipe out the clarity of your tone.
Boost your mids, and if you can cut your bass before it hits your amp, I’d start there. By cutting your lows before they hit your amp you end up with a tighter overall tone. You can add in bass with the amp’s EQ if you need to.
Dial in just enough reverb to where you can hear it, more if the song calls for it. A short to medium “room” reverb would probably be the way to go.
Your guitar’s tone knob will depend on the pickup. In general I prefer pickups with more mids and treble than bass…. I’ve included a link to seymour duncans master pickup list page. Each of them list their EQ output… A higher output with lower bass, like the JB or maybe one of the Duncan Customs, would probably be best. The Pearly Gates might even work. You will almost certainly want to pull back on your tone knob, and don’t be afraid to pull back on the volume a bit if that’s what it takes.
EMG’s are a good bet, too. They have very little bass, but lots of output.
Finally, experiment with your neck pickups as well as your bridge. It might be easier to get “that” tone with your neck pickup.
