can you use a an electronic tuner for the guitar with a bass?
i just bought a bass and i only have a guitar tuner and im on a realllllly tight budget. if that doesnt work can i use a piano?
Yes, maybe, no – depends on the tuner.
Bass strings are same notes as the low four on guitar (G,D,A,E) but are an octave lower in pitch. Some “guitar tuners” will hold fairly steady on the notes, some will perceive the note but won’t hold it, and some will act “glitchy” (not grab the note).
Best thing to do is use the 12th fret harmonic (touch the string lightly at the 12th fret and strick the string with a hard pick or equivalent). This will be the same note/octave as the open guitar string. Plugged into tuner or an amp one will probably work better than the other.You can also use the free online Bass guitar tuner I put in the sources box below.
