p pickup or j pickup for bass guitar?
I really want to learn how to play bass for a jazz band that i play trombone in but our bassist is moving and we need a bass guitar player for next year. i was wondering if i could play jazz on on p pickups or should i just buy a bass guitar with j pickups.
i’m not really going for the different sounds but would jazz sound good on p pickups
The type of bass you play, like all things music related, is a matter of preference. You can play any style of music on any bass if you want to.
‘P’ and ‘J’ basses are not the only kinds out there. You can find thousands of basses that all have a distinct tone. Try not to limit yourself down to just two different kinds.
If you are asking this because you already have a precision bass and wondering if you should buy a jazz one, let your ear be the judge. Do you like the sound of it or not? The best thing to do is to go to a music store and try a bunch of different basses out to see which one you like the most.
