putting bass neck on a guitar body, how bad of an idea is this?
just wanting to know if this will materialize into a franken-bass or if theres a chance itll resolve into a bass with an unusual body.
not planing on changing pickups model for the guitar body is a Kimberly VIP12 and, for the bass neck just anyone i have lying around.Not a good idea at all:
- Neck scale. You will need to find a neck which fits the scale of the previous one. If not you will have to move the bridge – probably quite a bit.
- Balance. The bass neck is longer – it is more than likely that the instrument will be massively neck heavy.
- Matching pickups. Since the spacing of the strings is different, then you will need to change pickups to match the string spacing.
- Bridge. You will need to change the bridge to accommodate the difference in string spacing and string gauge.
- Neck/body joint. Chanced is very slim you will find something which fits the existing neck pocket. The angle, height and width will need to be the same, or else you need to do some wood work…In essence – a very bad idea.
