A guy at guitar center told that I need to get my Epiphone Viola Bass “fine tuned”or else, do I really need to?
I was at guitar center talking with one of the employees and he told me that I need to take my Epiphone Viola Bass down to a music shop to get it fine tuned, restrung and I forgot what else he told me to ask them to do. He said that hollow body guitars need to be fine tuned when they’re purchased or else any little imperfection in string tension may cause a crack to appear in the body. Is there any truth to this? I doubt he was telling me to try and spend money, after all he told me to take it elsewhere since Guitar Center doesn’t do that kind of work. Do I really need to get my bass fine tuned?

Yes. If you have no experience, don’t try to re-string it yourself.
When you go to get it fine tuned, ask them about a machine (I forget what they are called) that will help you tune it. Watch how they tune it, and make sure they show you how to tune it yourself. That way you will know.
Alot of instruments – changes in temperatures will cause it to go out of tune. So it might be tuned in the store, but by the time you get it home it won’t be.
Basically, it’s a good idea to learn to do it yourself anyways.
