Muted Low E Bass String?
I play a Fender P-Bass. I changed my strings to Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky’s (I used to use Regular Slinky’s) to try something new. I went to practice for ~ 2 hours of playing time and had no problems. I wiped my strings when I was done and went home. When I got home, I grabbed the bass to noodle around a little bit and the low E string sounds muted now. I don’t think the different strings should matter because they both have the same low E string and they were fine all during practice. When I was wiping the strings clean, I pulled them up slightly so that I could wipe the bottom also. The string appears to be sitting in the nut and bridge saddles correctly. Could I have just gotten a bad string? Please help! I am trying to avoid going through sets of strings and/or paying a guitar tech $30 to fix my problem in 30 seconds.
sounds to me like you got some of the rag fibers stick in the string grooves. you dont have to remove the strings but you may want to loosen the E string and scrape clean the bridge/saddle with a pin… you dont have to wipe off the strings often and NEVER use paper towel or any fabric that looks like a bath towel. the ONLY rag to use is 100% smooth rayon. I like the RotoSound Swing Lites strings.
