How do I wire a 1/4 inch Mono Jack for a distortion pedal?
I’m making a guitar pedal from scratch and I need to wire the 2 female audio jacks. They have 4 legs/pins each and I have no clue how to wire them. The diagram shows the output jack connected to a 100K LOG pot but i have no idea to which leg or how. the input jack is shown to be connected to 1 leg of a 10nF capacitor. It is pretty easy to figure out which pin to connect the input and output to. You will need an ohmmeter. Get a spare 1/4 inch cable and plug it into the female 1/4 inch jack you plan to use for the pedal. Now put one lead of the ohmmeter on the tip of the other end if the 1/4 cable. Take the other lead of the ohmmeter and find which pin gives you zero ohms. That pin is the center pin or signal pin and that is the pin that will connect to the resistors for both your input and output. Now take the ohmmeter and connect it to the shaft on the 1/4 inch cable – then find the pin that is the ground. That pin will be the ground for both the input and output connectors. Very easy.
