Are strings for an electric guitar specific to the brand?
Or can you just buy any string and attach it? Because my first act guitar is missing 2 strings and I was wondering if I can just purchase the strings I need without worrying about the brand or model of the guitar.
It’s not the brand that matters, although lots of people tend to decide on their favorites (I like Dean Markleys and D’Addarios, personally). The GAUGE does matter, though. Do you like thick heavy strings? Then get a set where the high “E” string is .012 or more. If you like the really light ones that easy to bend, then get .009 (maybe they even come thinner – I can’t think of seeing an .008 right now). Most people tend to like light strings – maybe about a .010 or .011. But the BRAND of string you buy has nothing to do with the brand of guitar.
Oh – but make sure you’re buying acoustic strings for and acoustic guitar or electric strings for an electric guitar. It’ll say on the package. Some companies even make interchangable ones.
