Do I need a certain type of guitar strings for an acoustic guitar?
I have an acoustic and an electric guitar. Do I need to use a different type of strings for the acoustic guitar?
Yes, you do. Bronze and phosphor bronze are the most common. Bronze strings are bright sounding when you first install them but lose their brilliance quickly and a lot of players like the resulting tone. Phosphor bronze strings are softer in sound and last longer due to the phosphorus content. There are also variations like silk and steel strings plus silk and bronze strings which are softer in tone than bronze or phosphor bronze. These strings are favored by finger pickers. Finally, there are some nickel sets specially made for acoustic guitar. These sets are specifically designed to be used for acoustic guitars with electro magnetic pickups. Most acoustic electric guitars have piezo type pickups.
