What acoustic guitar body shape is best for me?
I play mostly rhythm and fingerstyle. What shape should I chose? I’m currently looking at the Seagull Entourage Dreadnought and Mini Jumbo. Which would be better for me?
Mini jumbos are fairly rare. I used to own one, and it was an odd duck. They are rare for a reason; I wouldn’t suggest getting one. Jumbos have a great rich bassy sound but look funny. I think Jewel uses one if you need to see an example. If you mainly finger pick, you wouldn’t need one.
Dreadnoughts are made for rhythm strumming. These are the gold standard for most players. The smaller body styles out there such as grand auditoriums are built for finger picking. You also need to consider the wood type for each style of play. Some tone woods give a more mellow sound (used for finger picking) while some are brighter (used for rhythm).
Be careful not to pick a guitar just based off of the look. There are any beautiful grand auditoriums that sound horrible when strummed!
Seagulls play very nicely, and they are one of the few mid-range guitars I recommend.
