would a classical electric guitar sound good in a rock band?
i have a classical guitar with an electric input to and a amplifier ….
i find myself that i feel more comfortable playing with this than and electric… and i can play it better..
but will it make good harmony with a bass, acoustic drums, and a electric guitar ?
i would use the class elec. for lead guitar..The technology for miking and/or using a pickup on an acoustic guitar, steel string or nylon string, would allow you to play your style of guitar on your own instrument in any band configuration. I have heard classical style guitars in passages of hundreds of songs over the years. Some using fingerstyle guitar as the main instrument. (Remember Mason Reece and “Classical Gas?”) Anyway, the answer is simply yes, you can. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. It is a form of fusion in some ways. The sound of the other instruments is not the issue. It’s who is playing them. Their particular style needs to meld with yours. I’m sure you can find people to do that. I’m working on fusing bluegrass and traditional Mexican instruments like guittarrons etc. Some people call me daft. I think it’s pretty interesting.
What you should do is take your axe down to a music store and try out a couple of pickups. They can get pretty expensive, but some of the less expensive ones like Dean Markley might sound pretty good. I do not recommend installing a pickup into the guitar. I have a problem with disturbing the setup or drilling holes. That’s a personal choice. Also, try miking the guitar with a one or two mike setup. I’m sure you will find that your guitar will be amplified AND sound the way you want it to. The rest is just a question of finding musicians and music.
